Hello, it’s me!!

The girl you’ve all been waiting for to post another blog. Yayy, it’s your lucky day!

I’m absolutely in love with my ministry & that I get to serve the Lord through something I’m so passionate about- teaching! I feel so honored that I get to teach English & show them the love of our Father. It honestly can’t get any better than this! Many of you know this about me, & if ya don’t, well here’s a fun fact, I’ve wanted to be an elementary teacher ever since the second grade. I feel so blessed that I get this opportunity to teach even before I have a degree. What a blessing it is that I’m getting to experience it! I feel so loved by God & I’m so grateful I get to share it with His little children.

My team gets to teach English three times a week in three different villages, one in which we are actually pioneering. Each village is so different & even after doing ministry there for one week they hold such a special place in my heart.

And don’t even get me started about our ministry hosts! Like holy moly, have I ever met a woman who carries the love of the Father like Josefina or a man so full of patience like Brayan? The answer is no. Josefina is a beautiful woman who has opened her home to be a safe place for children all over Bola de Oro to come be kids & be surrounded by the Lord’s presence. She pours into their mother’s life’s & welcomes everyone with her whole heart. Brayan is our go to man that leads us to each village, helps us during house visits & with the kids. He brings so much joy to the children as well as us through his smile. Neither of them speak English so it’s been such an incredible time for me to learn Spanish & to be fully immersed into the culture. Man, I have no idea what I’d do without Brayan! I’m so thankful for his patience with me when I try to speak Spanish as much as I can & ask him how to say so many things! He’s been such an amazing teacher to me & challenges me to speak it more.

Buenavista is another beautiful village I get the privilege to teach English in to little kids. My team split up into three groups: elementary, middle/high school & the Mom’s. I’m so happy that Sumer & I get to teach the little kids together! Our first day with this group of about 15 kids was such a blast & it lit the passion for teaching inside of me again. This group of kids love games where they can be active, goofy & compete against each other.

Our last village, Izapa is the village that we are pioneering. Herbert is a man that has opened his family’s home to us so we have a place to teach our English classes. He is so hospitable & selfless, oh & an incredible artist!!! These kids are so eager & excited to learn. We had around 30 kids show up to our first lesson & it was so fun! As we were going through numbers one through twenty and having them write them, there was a group of little boys struggling to keep up. I went & sat in the middle of these 6 little boys to help them. They had huge smiles on their faces and truly wanted to learn. I wish I could have captured the joy this group of boys had when were they finished writing all the numbers on their paper. It was so pure & tender. This was the moment they totally captured my heart.

On the Race, teaching looks like sitting in the middle of a dirt field with 30 kids surrounding you with a piece of paper, a crayon, & laughing at your broken Spanish. It’s setting up tables & chairs in a woman’s house & greeting the kids with hugs as they walk in & sit down. It’s changing the lesson last minute because you learn to adapt to how the kids learn best. Teaching is a beautiful thing. No matter where it’s at or what it looks like, it brings so much excitement to the children. It’s so simple & so pure.
